I had a conversation with the players about the skill of being a good listener. I directed it toward the younger players, so they wouldn't miss the opportunity to hear from the veterans, and the coaching staff. The idea with some of these topics is to challenge all of us, myself included, to work on things in our lives that will help us in our careers, but on the bigger scale, will help us in every area of our lives. I enjoy spending time talking about life with these guys and I make it VERY clear that I don't claim to have it all figured out and the topics that we are covering are areas that I want to improve on as well. I challenged the young players to be silent and respectful to the older players, and for the veterans to truly listen to the questions and concerns of the younger guys. These listening skills can certainly be applied to every relationship that we have, and can help them in their development as a player. We have a very good group of young players that are already doing a good job of this.
