First day of our full team....

First day of our full team being together. We always start the spring with a meeting where we talk about what lies ahead of us. I talked to the guys about how many things happened last season that they should be very proud of. I also like to lay it out to the young players, what the expectations are for them. The first place I go, is toward respect. I make it very clear how we treat people in our clubhouse, regardless of their role and position, as we are all part of something bigger...a family. I encourage our young players to never fall into the trap of believing that they are "above anyone else" or that they have earned the right to treat people as "beneath them." Talent can take us a long way in this game, but if we have selfishness creep into our clubhouse, then we are setting ourselves up for failure.

My first thought on seeing a Mike Matheny twitter was "IS THIS FOR REAL?!" and I'm so glad that it is! This entry is why. It is so important for each of us to know that character and values are so important, and sometimes, as a young person, I have to search a bit longer than I'd like to find people who value integrity above success or popularity (though they aren't mutually exclusive). I love that I've never had to look beyond the Cardinals team to see examples of that, though. BEST WISHES for a great season! I am SO PROUD to be a cardinals fan no matter what because of who the cardinals are as people in addition to players. Win-win.
