Very rarely in life do we come across people that appear larger than life, and over time, prove they actually are. Red Schoendienst had the rare mix of humility, wisdom, and class, that transcended the public eye. He set the bar unattainably high, for what is expected from the fortunate few who are involved in the game at the highest level. Red lived out the “Golden Rule” and treated people in a way that earned respect and admiration, no matter their position in life. I am forever indebted to this incredible man, for the hours of teaching, even when he didn’t know a student was watching, mentoring, even though he never signed up for the job, and friendship, even though decades separated us. Love and respect for the “Red Bird.” You will be missed.
